2 Coast Guard Academy Cadets Killed In Spring Break Crash

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) -- Officials at the Coast Guard Academy say two cadets have been killed and a third injured in a spring break car crash in New Jersey.



Academy spokesman David Santos tells The Day of New London (http://bit.ly/1wgcarF ) that cadets have been notified and counseling will be offered and memorial services planned when students return March 15. No names were released.



Academy Superintendent Rear Adm. Sandra Stosz said Saturday night the academy community is "deeply saddened" and committed to helping the cadets cope with the tragedy.



New Jersey authorities said two passengers in a car driven by 21-year-old Joel MacArthur of Oley, Pennsylvania, were killed when it collided with an oncoming car on Route 31 in Hopewell Township early Saturday.



MacArthur and two people in the other car were injured.
