HUDSON, Fla. (AP) -- A 13-year-old Florida boy shot his brothers during an argument over food, killing a 6-year-old and wounding a 16-year-old before fatally shooting himself inside their mobile home north of Tampa.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco says the Wednesday evening shooting occurred while their mother was at work and an 18-year-old brother was not at the Sugar Lane Mobile Home Park residence in Hudson.
"This is a horrific scene," Nocco said late Wednesday. "This is a nightmare."
He said the teen retrieved a gun during the argument and started shooting. The 16-year-old called deputies for help at 6:19 p.m. The teen's wounds were not thought to be life-threatening. He was being treated at an area hospital late Wednesday.
Few details were released Wednesday night, but Nocco was expected to provide an update around 11 a.m. EDT Thursday. He said it wasn't clear who owned the gun.
Grief counselors would be on hand Thursday at the schools the brothers attended, Nocco said.
"We're devastated that this would happen to such young children, and we are prepared to provide whatever services are needed at their schools," said Linda Cobbe, a spokeswoman for the Pasco County School District.
"I can't even imagine," Cobbe told the Tampa Bay Times ( http://bit.ly/1CR9baE ).
Hudson is about 45 miles northwest of Tampa on Florida's Gulf coast.
The shootings happened about 2 miles from the location of another family slaying. In August, three members of a family and a fourth man were discovered dead. The ex-boyfriend of one of the victims is awaiting trial in those deaths.
