AGAIN? Family Says Video Contradicts Cop Story In Killing Of Mentally Ill Florida Man

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors are investigating the fatal shooting of a mentally ill man by a Florida police officer.

In February, Miami Gardens officer Eddy Trimino responded to a call from 25-year-old Lavall Hall's mother. She says her son was having a violent episode.

Authorities say Hall repeatedly swung a metal broom and refused commands to stop. Police dash camera video shows Trimino yelling at Hall to get on the ground and then firing, with Hall off camera at that point.

Hall family lawyers released the video Wednesday. They say there was no reason for the officer to fire.

Trimino's attorney tells the Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1E7cYBo) the officer feared for his life.

The Herald reports that Hall's family and NAACP members stressed that the shooting is more about police dealing with the mentally ill than with any race issues, even though Hall was black and Trimino is white.
