South Daytona man Ray Comer, 56, has been charged with felony animal cruelty and is being held on a $2,000 bail, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.
Last Sunday, Comer was seen by multiple witnesses beating, shaking, then finally strangling a young dachshund, according to police.
Comer, who authorities say is homeless, was further linked to the killing after leaving his identification card next to the dog's body, according to Fox43. The dog was found with a shoelace around its neck.
The suspect allegedly told police he wanted to be arrested when they found him nearby sitting on a sidewalk.
