An Iowa man has been arrested for first-degree harassment after sending a threatening letter to a Des Moines gay bar that he claimed to have laced with the deadly poison anthrax.
Eric Reece Wiethorn, 49, reportedly sent a letter to Des Moines' Blazing Saddle containing a death threat and an unknown white powder later determined to be Gold Bond Medicated Powder, The Des Moines Register is reporting.
"This is your punishment for sinning against God, and hopefully you’ll die from the anthrax on this letter," the note, which the bar received on March 27, read.
Wiethorn, who was being held at the Polk County Jail on a $2,000 bond as of April 9, has admitted to sending the letter, according to the report.
At the time, the letter left Blazing Saddle's owner and clientele understandably shaken, but not intimidated. All were grateful it was a false alarm.
"After 9/11 you just can’t trust anything," owner Robert "Mongo" Eikleberry told WHO TV last month. "[But] if you worry every day about something... somebody gonna get ya, you’re gonna get old real quick, and I refuse to do it."
