NJ Police Seek Help Finding Mom Of Headless Baby

New Jersey State Police still investigating the death of an infant found without her head last year have released photos of evidence and a sketch of the baby in an attempt to track down the mother.

The unidentified baby, who was named "Emma Grace" by a local church, was 21.5 inches, seven pounds and five ounces, when her headless body was discovered more than five months ago in a trash heap at the facility in Farmingdale, authorities said in a press release. The baby's head was later found in a shopping area in another town.

Police released a sketch of Emma this week and asked the public for help in their search for the baby's mother.

"Detectives hope someone may recognize the baby based on the composite sketch or provide assistance to find the mother based on the items of clothing," police said.

According to the release:

Investigators uncovered the infant’s head, two blood-stained blouses, and a bag from a retail store area in Orange, N.J. The old blouses had no tags, but their size could be characterized as petite to medium. Both the clothing and the bag are believed to be connected with the mother of the infant.

The infant's cause of death hasn't yet been determined, but cops think the mother was responsible for leaving her body in a dumpster. She may have also been trying to hide her pregnancy, and dumped the body after she gave birth. The baby was not a stillborn.

State police are offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the baby's mother.

Funeral services for Emma are scheduled for this Saturday at the Ardena Baptist Church in Farmingdale.
