A Bourbon Street standoff that led to the discovery of a man who had been beaten and stabbed to death April 4 started with a phone call made by the accused suspect to a friend, according to documents revealed in court Monday (April 10).

"He's dead. This is Luis. I killed him," the accused killer, 40-year-old Luis Conde, told a friend he called that morning, according to Conde's arrest paperwork. He is accused of second-degree murder in the killing his longtime partner, 61-year-old Cleveland Guillot Jr.

A Jefferson Parish grand jury charged a Harvey man with second-degree murder in the death of Xy'Ahir Davis, the 10-month-old boy fatally shot in a December home invasion, records showed Monday (April 10). Jonathan Manuel, 27, was also charged with attempted second-degree murder and two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. 

Manuel is accused of storming a home in the 2100 block of Caddy Drive around 4:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and opening fire. Xy'Ahir was inside with his father and at least two others at the time, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has said. Xy'Ahir and a 16-year-old boy were hit multiple times. The infant was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A New Orleans East man accused of gunning a man down two years ago in the parking lot of a Crowder Boulevard strip mall averted a murder trial and possible life sentence by pleading guilty Monday (April 10) to manslaughter.

Demond Boutte, 36, decided to accept a plea agreement in which he admitted killing 29-year-old Calvin Everett shortly after midnight Jan. 26, 2015. Boutte was sentenced the following day to the maximum 40 years in prison.
