Crime ring steals bank info, money from 119 local residents - Albany Times Union

A crime ring stole bank information and money from almost 120 people in Warren and Saratoga Counties this winter and spring, State Police said Thursday.

Troopers are asking the public for help in identifying a man they believe placed credit card skimming devices in three bank ATMs — two in Glens Falls and one in Saratoga Springs — between late January and early April. The suspect was captured on video at 9:24 p.m. March 26 by one bank's surveillance cameras.

The bank accounts of 119 people were compromised by the skimming devices and thousands of ollars were lost, the State Police said.

Soon after the account information was skimmed, fraudulent withdrawals were made at ATMs in the Albany, Schenectady and Poughkeepsie areas using counterfeit cards, the State Police said.

All of the victims were notified and reimbursed by the banks.

Anyone who has information about the case should contact the New York State Police Financial Crimes Unit at (518) 786-2192.
