CRESTVIEW — A woman was arrested after a crime spree that included stealing merchandise from two separate stores, attempting to climb out of a police car and requesting her meth pipe be brought with her to jail.
According to an arrest report from the Crestview Police Department, on Aug. 20 an officer responded to a retail store after a manager said she witnessed the woman push a buggy with $472.12 worth of merchandise past the register and out the door without paying for it. The woman then pushed the buggy into the manager’s car, causing about $500 worth of damage, and left the scene.
Another officer arrived on scene stating that a woman matching the same description was the suspect in a theft that took place earlier in the day at another retail store in which the woman cut a hole in a purse valued at $12.50, cut the price tag out and put it back on the shelf after a store employee confronted her.
The woman was identified by surveillance footage and arrested at a nearby hotel. After her arrest, she requested her belongings be brought with her to jail. Upon searching her belongings, officers found a glass pipe containing a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
The woman then requested medical attention and Okaloosa EMS responded and transported her to North Okaloosa Medical Center for evaluation. She was cleared and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail. While being transported, she told officers she needed to vomit, so an officer rolled down her window. When the patrol vehicle turned into the jail parking lot, the woman removed her seatbelt, stood up on the back seat and attempted to exit the vehicle through the window legs first, face down.
Two officers secured her before she could escape and placed her in jail.
The woman was charged with retail theft, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
