The latest New York State crime data can show us which counties are the most crime-ridden across the state, but it can also show us which counties are seeing the largest growth in crime, year-over-year.

Using 2016 crime data from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, we've determined the number of index crimes committed per 100,000 people for every county in the state for the years 2015 and 2016, then ranked each county by which one saw the largest increase in crime last year.

These "index crimes" include both violent crimes like murder, rape and assault, and so-called property crimes like burglary and motor vehicle theft.

Take a look at the full ranking below. Cities are ranked by the greatest increase in crimes committed per capita between 2015 and 2016. Also included in each listing is the change in total number of index crimes committed and the change in population.

#24 Livingston County

Crimes per capita change: +4

#23 Albany County

Crimes per capita change: +8

Crimes committed change: +37

Population change: +414

#22 Orange County

Crimes per capita change: +10

Crimes committed change: +77

Population change: +2,080

#21 Tioga County
