A student at a middle school in Lake in the Hills has been charged with a hate crime after posting a threatening video on social media, authorities said.
Police were called to Marlowe Middle School on Oct. 19 when a parent reported the video had been posted by a student, Deputy Chief Pat Boulden said.
The video was threatening, and schools on the Reed Road campus were temporarily placed on soft lockdown that morning, according to a statement from Huntley Community School District 158 Superintendent John Burkey. However, the student was never on campus that day, and there was no danger to students or school staff members, he said.
The student has since been charged with a hate crime and two counts of disorderly conduct, Boulden said.
