President Trump urged Virginians on Tuesday to support Republican Ed Gillespie over Democrat Ralph Northam in the election to decide the state's next governor, and said Gillespie would do more to fight crime in the state.
"Ralph Northam will allow crime to be rampant in Virginia. He's weak on crime, weak on our GREAT VETS. Anti-Second Amendment ... and has been horrible on Virginia economy. Vote @EdWGillespie today!" Trump tweeted Tuesday morning. "@EdWGillespie will totally turn around the high crime and poor economic performance of VA. MS-13 and crime will be gone. Vote today, ASAP!"

Gillespie's campaign has criticized Northam's support for sanctuary cities, which they say have allowed illegal immigrants who are a part of international gangs to live among U.S. citizens.
A Real Clear Politics average of polls conducted over the past week shows Northam has a 3-point advantage over Gillespie, but is within the margin of error in some surveys.
Trump also touted the stock market's hitting another record-high on Monday and said it indicates "great confidence in the moves of my Administration."
