Formal charges filed against crime spree suspect - The Union-Recorder

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — As detectives continue probing the events that led to the arrest of Montrell Johnson, new details have emerged about the crime spree and two vehicle crashes.

The 25-year-old Johnson, of 430 Earnest Byner St., Milledgeville, was taken into custody Thursday after an overnight stay at Navicent Health Baldwin hospital following a

series of events Wednesday afternoon in both Baldwin county and Milledgeville.

Johnson was taken from the hospital to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

Jail records show the suspect was charged with one count of felony aggravated battery, two counts of misdemeanor battery, one count of felony aggravated sodomy, one count of criminal intent to commit a felony, and two counts of reckless driving. Johnson was also charged with felony theft of a motor vehicle, failure to obey a traffic control device, driving with a suspended license, criminal trespass, two counts of failure to provide assistance, terroristic threats and acts.

Johnson, who has been arrested on various criminal charges since 2009, is being held in the county jail pending a first appearance hearing.

Detectives with the Milledgeville Police Department were still investigating Wednesday’s incidents that included Johnson reportedly causing two vehicle crashes near the Golden Pantry store at 204 E. Hancock St.

After the wreck, Johnson reportedly ran to the convenience store and assaulted at least two people inside the store. One of the victims was attacked in a sexual manner.

Police still had not released the incident report of the crimes that happened at the store, or the wreck reports as of Friday afternoon at press time.

Authorities said Johnson stole a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck Wednesday from a man who was working at The Milledgeville Manor Apartments on South Jefferson Street.

Johnson then reportedly drove the truck into downtown Milledgeville, where he collided with vehicles in two different wrecks.
