Kamron Taylor, Convicted Murderer, Overpowers Guard And Escapes Illinois Jail

A man convicted of murder is on the run after overpowering a guard at an Illinois jail and escaping.

Kamron T. Taylor was awaiting sentencing when he broke out of Jerome Combs Detention Center early Wednesday, CNN reports. He allegedly took a correctional officer's uniform and keys, then fled in the guard's 2012 Chevrolet Equinox.

The 23-year-old fugitive is "considered armed and dangerous," the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office reports. He's described as African-American, 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, and he's wanted for aggravated battery as well as escape.

The Daily Journal in Kankakee reports that Taylor was found guilty in February of killing a man in a June 2013 botched robbery. After his guilty verdict was read, he reportedly stood up and tried to escape the courtroom.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest. He was last seen leaving the jail in Kankakee, about 60 miles south of Chicago, at 3 a.m.
