Max Greenfield has returned to Ryan Murphy’s mad world.
The “New Girl” star has been cast in the third season of “American Crime Story,” which will focus on the 1997 assassination of Gianni Versace.
The new season will be based on Maureen Orth’s book “Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History,” which focuses on Versace and murderer Andrew Cunanan.
Darren Criss has been cast as Cunanan, while Édgar Rarmirez will play the fashion designer, Penélope Cruz will play Donatella Versace and Ricky Martin will play Versace’s longtime partner Antonio D’Amico.

Greenfield’s character has not yet be revealed.
“Versace” is expected to premiere next year.
