Jurors likely to endure killer nanny crime scene photos - New York Post

Jurors in the trial for the nanny who confessed to butchering two children will likely have to endure seeing crime scene photos of the 2012 bloodbath.

Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg asked a judge Thursday to bar the stomach-churning photos showing the bodies of Lucia, 6, and Leo, 2, after they’d been stabbed dozens of times.

But Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro denied her motion, saying he previously ruled on it anyway.

“The picture is horrific and gruesome. It will only go to inflame the jury, to invoke sympathy,” Van Leer-Greenberg argued in vain after jurors were sent home following an emotional first day of the trial. “They will not be thinking with their intellect. They will be thinking with their heart. It will be that gut-wrenching.”

Earlier that day, mom Marina Krim came face to face with her former nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, for the first time in six years, slamming the 55-year-old woman as a “liar” and “disgusting.”

Krim wept as she recalled in detail discovering her children’s lifeless bodies in a bathtub in their Upper West Side home.

The 41-year-old mom will continue testifying under cross-examination Friday.

Ortega is mounting an insanity defense, claiming she was mentally ill when she slaughtered the tots.

If the 12 jurors find her guilty, she faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. But if they deem her not guilty by reason of insanity, she could spend the rest of her life in a mental hospital.
