The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released its annual Crime in Tennessee report, cataloging all of the state’s reported crimes.
The TBI said this year’s more than 500-page report indicates “a slight overall increase in reported instances of crime.”
According to the report, Maury County’s law enforcement agencies responded to 11,061 crimes last year, an increase from the previous year’s total, 10,033, with each of the region’s four departments responding to more incidents of crime.
“I would be willing to bet that it is all related to the drug problem, but there is not one thing to point the finger toward,” said Brent Cooper, District Attorney for the 22nd District.
Cooper’s office presides over Maury, Lawrence, Giles and Wayne counties.
He also considered that the increase could be the result of more effective reporting from law enforcement.
