COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A homeless woman who was raped nearly a year ago in Ohio says she sometimes begged for bus money or walked up to 8 miles so she could face her attacker in court.
A police officer in Columbus says without her determination, it's unlikely her attacker would have been convicted. A judge last week sentenced 54-year-old Paul Hubert to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to rape.
Hubert's attorney blamed what happened on drugs and alcohol.
The woman tells The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/16RlTJp) that she made sure to be at the hearings so no one else would become a victim.
Prosecutors say the woman was sleeping under a bridge in Columbus when she was raped last March.
The Associated Press generally does not name victims of sexual assault.
