ANN ARBOR, MI - A group created to support women mystery and crime writers is forming a new chapter in Michigan and is launching with an event in Ann Arbor.
Sisters in Crime has advocated for women writers, editors and sellers of mystery books since its inception 30 years ago. It has become a nationwide organization for writers and aspiring writers from all aspects of mystery and crime writing.
The Michigan chapter will join 57 other chapters across the country.
The official kick off happens at 2 p.m., July 29, at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase, 212 S. Fourth Ave. That's across the street from Aunt Agatha's Mystery Bookshop, 213 S. Fourth Ave.
A panel discussion centered around the theme, "Bad Guys," will be held to celebrate the new Michigan chapter. Headlining the discussion is District Judge Terrance P. Bronson; Jason D. Porter, a vice president of the storied Pinkerton Detective Agency, and Louis Stock, retired supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal.
"There will be a series of unique perspectives on crime and criminals and not only what makes a bad guy, but what a bad buy is. We want to get beyond the mustache twirling villain and beyond the TV image of the serial killer," said Sarah Zettel, mystery book author and publicity coordinator for the Michigan Sisters in Crime.
The event is free and open to the public. To register or find out more, click here.
